Role-specific learning and verification

Employee Training Standards for Future Roles

Call live Kansas City dispatch at 816-588-8888 for current availability.

No specific opening is advertised on this page.

Training must match the real job, assigned equipment, hazards, legal requirements, and employee experience. This page states a forward-looking training standard; it does not advertise an opening, certified school, apprenticeship, paid-training program, guaranteed training hours, or current equipment inventory.

Training areas and control points

01

Start with the actual role

Define the essential duties, work environment, vehicles, equipment, customer interactions, records, authority limits, emergency triggers, and performance expectations before selecting training topics.

02

Teach safety and stop-work decisions

Cover traffic exposure, moving vehicles, blind spots, fire, fluids, weather, lifting and securement, high voltage, workplace violence, personal protective equipment, incident reporting, and when work must pause for another plan.

03

Train on assigned equipment and procedures

Use current manufacturer, vehicle, equipment, inspection, loading, securement, roadside, dispatch, custody, release, privacy, and company procedures that apply to the real assignment—not a generic checklist presented as universal.

04

Protect customers and information

Include authorization, estimates, inquiry-versus-assignment language, condition records, vehicle custody, identity verification, sensitive-data minimization, respectful communication, accessible alternatives, and complaint escalation.

05

Use supervised practice where needed

Observation, demonstration, supervised performance, scenario review, and correction should match the risk of the task. An employee should not be released to independent work merely for attending a presentation.

06

Reassess after changes

Provide refresher or updated training when equipment, procedures, hazards, duties, laws, incidents, observed performance, or manufacturer instructions materially change.

How training should be documented

Training objective

Record the job-related skill, knowledge, hazard, procedure, or decision the training is intended to address and the source used for the current instruction.

Instructor and material

Identify who delivered the instruction, their relevant qualification, the equipment or procedure covered, the date, and the version of any manufacturer or company material.

Competency evidence

Document the appropriate demonstration, supervised task, knowledge check, correction, restriction, or follow-up instead of treating attendance alone as proof of competence.

Accommodation and language access

Training should be provided in a form employees can understand, with reasonable accommodation addressed through an appropriate process without unnecessary disclosure of medical information.

Important limits

  • This page is a company training standard, not proof of a current curriculum, certified instructor, school, apprenticeship, credential, equipment inventory, or completed employee training record.
  • No opening, paid-training offer, training wage, duration, graduation guarantee, job placement, promotion, or independent-work authorization is advertised.
  • Training requirements depend on the real role and applicable federal, Missouri, Kansas, local, manufacturer, insurance, and company requirements at the time.
  • No person should perform a hazardous or regulated task merely because it appears on this page; assignment requires the actual training, equipment, supervision, authority, and safe conditions.

Questions drivers ask

Does Tommy's currently offer a tow-operator training school?

No training school, public course, apprenticeship, or current opening is advertised here. The page describes standards that should guide role-specific employee training if a position and program are established.

Does completing orientation authorize independent towing work?

Not by itself. Independent work depends on the actual role, license, training, supervised performance, equipment, procedure, authority, restrictions, and demonstrated competence.

When should training be refreshed?

When duties, equipment, procedures, hazards, laws, manufacturer instructions, incidents, restrictions, or observed performance create a material need for updated instruction or reassessment.

Can training admission be based on a protected characteristic?

Employment training decisions should use lawful, job-related criteria and follow applicable equal-employment and accommodation requirements rather than stereotypes or protected characteristics.
