01Call 911 for immediate roadway danger
Use 911 for injury, fire, smoke, hazardous leakage, a vehicle stopped in a live lane, an unstable crash, or another urgent threat. Do not cross K-10, stand in a gore point, or walk along a high-speed shoulder to find a sign.
02Give direction, county, and nearest signed interchange
Report eastbound or westbound, Douglas or Johnson County if known, and the last and next exits. Useful anchors include Lawrence interchanges, Eudora-area access, Church Street or Lexington Avenue in De Soto, K-7, Woodland or Lone Elm roads, and I-435 in Lenexa.
03Distinguish the mainline from local and industrial access
State whether the vehicle is on the K-10 mainline, an entrance or exit ramp, a bridge, a frontage or local road, an industrial entrance, or a public lot. Add the facility or business only after identifying the signed roadway.
04Report shoulder, median, and construction geometry
Give right or left shoulder, width, barrier, median, bridge, lane exposure, work-zone shift, closed ramp, darkness, weather, and whether the vehicle can move safely. Planned corridor improvements do not describe a live closure; current signs control.
05Use current Kansas traveler information
Check KanDrive and KDOT KC Metro Updates for current incidents, closures, cameras, work zones, and road conditions. KDOT's K-10 corridor page explains the long-term study area but should not be used as a real-time traffic map.
06Confirm Kansas authority, distance, and assignment
Give vehicle condition, keys, drivetrain, wheels, damage, leaks, destination, and receiving hours. Call 816-588-8888 for live confirmation of Kansas authority, exact route distance, safe access, equipment, availability, estimate, and assignment.
